The ”World Biennials of Art Bookbinding” was created in 1991 by Gaston Dall’Ara, under the patronage of the European Parliament of Strasburg and the French Ministry of Culture. Little by little this event grew in size, from 68 to 633 participants, having a register of more than 4,500 names all over the world. Since 2005 it is organised in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, by a team of volunteers under the presidency of Anne Perissaguet.

   1990. 1st European contest : "Arenas Ritual" of the Bonnat Museum.

    1991. 1st European Biennial : "Europeans Poetries" of the 12 members countries.
                                                                                        184 participants from 8 countries.

   1993. 2nd European Biennial : "The Labourd" of H. Lamant-Duhart

   1995. 3rd European Biennial : "Ravel the Basque" of G. Pialloux.
                                                                                        303 participants from 16 countries.

   1997. 4th European Biennial : "Saint-Jean-de-Luz / Ciboure, a Corsair City" by G. Pialloux.
                                                                                        440 participants from 20 countries.

   1999. 5th World Biennial : "Cyrano of Bergerac" by Edmond Rostand.
                                                                                        581 participants from 29 countries.

   2001 .6ème World Biennial : "Fisherman in Iceland"  by Pierre Loti.
                                                                                        671 participants from 30 countries.

   2003. 7th World Biennial : "The Atlantide" by Pierre Benoît.
                                                                                        633 participants from 33 countries.

   2005. 8th World Biennial : "Around The World in 80 days" by Jules Verne

   2007. 9th World Biennial : “Tales of Mother Goose" by Charles Perrault

   2009. 10th World Biennial : “The Marriage of Figaro" by Beaumarchais

The next edition in 2011 :  the Fables of La Fontaine
